My grandfather,John Werner, 91, who was my father figure during my childhood, got the flu a week ago which then resulted in pneumonia this week. Yesterday he was transported to the hospital where he was admitted. The report I received today is that he is in renal failure; however, he was severely dehydrated so much that he is not swelling.
My sense is that the time has come for him to "go home", especially since he is unable to care for himself for well over a year, even to the point of barely being able to move any of his extremities. (He was unable to be at Thanksgiving or at Christmas family events this year.)  My grandmother was even close to saying the same, although she stopped in the middle of her sentence and didn't finish.
this is all quite difficult. The last couple of years have been challenging to be too far away to see Grandpa on a regular basis. I feel like I'm losing my father, since he was my father figure for over 30 yrs. My brother is quite angry about how he has been cared for over the last couple of years.
I just want Grandpa to not suffer anymore. And I want to see my brother turn to the Lord, and forgive those whom he is angry with.
Also, just need prayer  as this pain is unlike any I've ever experienced.

READ: Hebrews 11:32-40

All these . . . obtained a good testimony through faith. —Hebrews 11:39

In a letter to his son Eduard, Albert Einstein gave this advice: "Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving." The great physicist's advice is wise and practical.

This wise counsel can apply to the Christian life. Many believers by faith keep moving ahead through painful and trying circumstances. But when they experience a personal moral failure, they lose their balance and fall. Their regret and feeling of unworthiness of God's forgiveness may then keep them down and they no longer move ahead in their spiritual life.

The Bible gives us many examples of those who have experienced serious personal failure. Abraham lied to Pharaoh about his wife, Sarah (Gen. 12:11-17). Jacob deceived his father to acquire Esau's blessing (Gen. 27:18-29). Moses disobeyed God by striking the rock instead of speaking to it (Num. 20:7-12). Despite their failures, we are told: "all these . . . obtained a good testimony through faith" (Heb. 11:39).

These biblical characters are lifted up as examples because after they fell, they turned back to God and began to follow Him again. Have you lost your spiritual balance through a sinful choice, which is keeping you down? Repent and follow the God of second chances once again. —Dennis Fisher

I've strayed, O Lord, and turned aside,
I've disobeyed Your voice;
But now contrite of heart I turn
And make Your will my choice. —D. De Haan

Our God is a God of second chances.

(CS4U) Leadership Promises ~ Close to the Heart of God

                                                                                                 December 29

Close to the Heart of God

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8

When Samuel first heard God's voice, he was "in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was" (1 Samuel 3:3). That was a good place to be, because that location was as close to the presence of God as a person could be in those days-unless, of course, he were the high priest who entered the Holy of Holies once a year.

Close to God is where every leader belongs. That doesn't mean you have to be in a place of formal worship; it just means you need to have an attitude of worship wherever you are. It's a posture of the heart.

That's a lesson I learned while in college and then took into the ministry. When I was attending Circleville Bible College, I used to go out to a deserted house after my classes and spend time with God every afternoon. It became my special place to connect with Him. Since then, I've always had a special place I visit to listen to God.

If you want to become the kind of person that others listen to, then get better acquainted with God. Connect with Him on a consistent basis, and you will greatly increase the likelihood that you will connect with others.

(CS4U) December 30 - Judgment from the Word

Days of Praise
Judgment from the Word
December 30, 2010

"I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors." (Psalm 119:121)

The Hebrew word mishpat is one of the eight terms used in Psalm 119 to identify the Word of God. The psalmist used mishpat in the opening of this stanza (Psalm 119:121-128) to declare obedience to God's "judgments"--especially regarding those who oppress the Lord's people.

Sometimes the Lord seems to delay action against those who rebel against truth. The prophet Habakkuk lived during such a time:

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! . . . for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. (Habakkuk 1:2-4)

During such times, we need "surety" (Psalm 119:122) from God to strengthen our minds. Paul warned Timothy of "perilous times" (2 Timothy 3:1) ahead, but also reminded him of God's pledge: "They shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was" (2 Timothy 3:9).

After pleading his case, the psalmist stated: "It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void thy law" (Psalm 119:126). He expressed his love for the commandments--exceeding his desire for wealth--and concluded: "Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way" (Psalm 119:128). May our hearts be as resolute and as strong amid our opposition. Make it so, Lord Jesus. HMM III

(CS4U) Leadership Promises ~ Are You a Navigator?

December 30

Are You a Navigator?

The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits. Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.
Proverbs 16:1-3

Effective leaders practice the Law of Navigation, which says that anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course. The verses in Proverbs 16 remind leaders to:

  • Check the source of their wisdom
  • Check their motives
  • Check the outcome they are pursuing

Consider five key words to understanding how God helps leaders to navigate their way through life:

  • Process - God's plan usually unfolds over time. What is He revealing progressively?
  • Purpose - God wants to accomplish His purposes. Why were you created?
  • Potential - God will use your gifts and passion. Does this goal fit who you are?
  • Prioritize - God will ask you to adjust your time and energy. What steps must you take?
  • Proceed - God will eventually require you to act. When should you start?

Many Christians Don't Know What They Believe and Why
Click to download your free eChart now! It's shocking that so many Christians cannot explain the 14 key beliefs of Christianity. Volunteers, lay leaders, Bible studies, and even Sunday school teachers occasionally make major mistakes when teaching children, youth, and even adults about the core of Christianity. Click here to find out more now.

What do Christians believe about these key topics and why?
  • God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Trinity
  • The Human Condition, Salvation
  • Christ's sinlessness, the Virgin Birth, His nature
  • Jesus' atoning death, the Resurrection
  • and more
Essential Doctrine Made Easy pamphlet, written by Dr. Norman Geisler, outlines and explains 14 key beliefs embraced by believers around the world, such as Christ's Virgin Birth, Atoning Death, and Bodily Resurrection. This bestselling pamphlet looks at each doctrine and asks two essential questions: What Do I Actually Need to Believe? What Is At Stake Here?

This colorful, eye-friendly,brief, but excellent summary of Christian doctrine pamphlet is beautifully done. The Essentials are given and explained in concise form. There is also a helpful chart on how other religious groups treat these essentials. A great little fold-out that is done on glossy paper for durability. It is a handy resource to have or to give away.
-customer review from amazon.com

Essential Doctrine Made Easy pamphlet Every Christian should know the 14 basics, and it is easier to teach than most churches realize! You don't have to read a 300-page book, you can read a quick, simple 14-page full-color pamphlet.

FAST - This pamphlet explains each doctrine in just two or three sentences.
BIBLICAL - The Scriptures behind each belief are clearly spelled out.
RELEVANT - Compares the beliefs of other religious groups to see how they modify or deny some of the key beliefs.
EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND - Includes a glossary of key terms: Ascension, Grace, Incarnation, and more.

The eCharts lists the 14 essential beliefs. The pamphlet goes far beyond: It gives an explanation, Scripture passages, definitions, and a comparison chart of other religions.

Cut Through The Confusion
"This volume goes beyond a mere survey of different views of the end times by reaffirming a steadfast hope in the promises of God's Word and encouraging readers to live faithfully in light of the forthcoming consummation of God's kingdom."
David S. Dockery
President, Union University

Lead a Bible study comparing four major views of the end times — without being an expert!
What does the Bible actually say about the end times that lead to the return of Jesus Christ? The differing ideas that divide believers into four major points-of-view are examined in this Four Views of the End Times DVD-based small group study. This new six-session study shows four different Revelation time lines and tackles Dispensational Premillennialism, Postmillennialism, Historic Premillennialism, and Amillennialism. For each view, the study includes a definition, supporting Scriptures, a time line of the view's popularity, and a sampling of Christian leaders supporting that view. Common questions and answers are handled as part of each DVD session, so you don't need to be the expert.
