Devotion 12/19/2010
Let's Live A Life Of Praise Unto The Lord

Psa 145:2  Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Quote
James 1:19-20 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Verses - KJV
Prov 14:29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

My Thoughts and Comments
Are we very quick to get angry at someone? Do we hurt others and ourselves when we do? What does the Lord think about it?

Sometimes, are we too quick to give an answer, without thinking it through and letting the Spirit of God, within us, give us an answer? There was a time in my life when I was very quick to get angry and let everyone in hearing distance know it! With the Lord's help that is almost gone out of my life.

Eph 4:26-27 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Anger must be dealt with the same day we give place to it. Beloved, this is as much for our benefit as the one we got angry with! Having a problem with someone else will effect our relationship with the Lord. Mark 11:25  And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

The word anger is just one letter from danger! When we are angry we say and do things we later regret very much. The prisons are full of those who let anger rule their lives! I have heard saints pray that the Lord would get someone who had hurt them. They should have been praying that the Lord would have mercy on them instead!

Luke 6:27-33 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

Are we doing what the above verses say? Do we bless those who curse us or get very angry with them? Do we love our enemies or hope they get hurt? Beloved, we should always remember that we were once enemies with God but He had mercy and forgave us, we must do the same with our enemies. We must understand that our own forgiveness hinges on us forgiving others.

When we don't forgive others our relationship with the Lord is in danger! Do it quickly, before the sun goes down. Be slow to anger, slow to speak, quick to listen, use great understanding. What makes us angry will usually tell us where we are in our walk with the Lord. Do we get angry at sin and what it does or do we get angry with sinners? Do we give all vengeance to God or try to handle it ourselves, our way? Meditate on it!

Prayer
Father God, may Your Spirit within us give us complete control of our tempers. When we get angry may it be at sin, not sinners. Help us to stop giving place to fleshly anger. Forgive us if we do. We ask, believe we receive, and give thanks in Jesus name, Amen.

(CS4U) Leadership Principles - Part 2

Leadership Principles – Part 2

He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
Proverbs 13:20

Before you make the decision, be sure you can live with the consequences! Ask yourself, "Do I have what it takes to handle this?" If you can barely cope now, how will you handle more? Check the record; before God builds the ministry He builds the person, because added success brings added pressure. If your success makes you unavailable to God and your family, it is not success, it is failure. Never allow your expectations to exceed your practical potential! Get rid of the myth that you can do anything if you just put your mind to it. Dogs can walk on their hind legs, but it is not their calling. Be honest with yourself. Only do what you do well. "But what about all the other stuff that needs doing?" Learn to delegate, then let the church (or the business) roll on! If the return is not greater than the investment, it is not worth your time! Time is you're most valuable and limited resource; you do not have any to waste. Wasted time is the leading cause of failure, so get away from people and habits that waste your time. Become more focused and goal-oriented. Live every day as though it were your last - it might be! Survive in order to thrive! Let nothing take you out. The Psalmist said, "weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning" (Psalm 30:5). If you can just survive today, you can thrive tomorrow, and with God on your side, go on to greater things that only with His direct intervention will it succeed.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me bring up more people that you have chosen and gifted to carry out Your will, Your Vision. In Jesus' Name, Amen

(CS4U) Leadership Principles - Part 1

Leadership Principles – Part 1

"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?"
Luke 14:28

You do not demand leadership; you earn it - every day. To be a leader worth following, you must: 1) Learn to control your impulsiveness! Short-term solutions create long-term problems. Listen: "be swift to hear, slow to speak" (James 1:19). Do not let knee-jerk reactions blind you to sound judgment. Always ask, "Do I have to decide this minute?" Usually you do not. This is important because your leadership is only as good as your track record. 2) Put the right people in the right slot! We put people in certain slots because there is no one else to fill them at the time. That is understandable. But what happens when the job outgrows them? There is more at stake here than sparing somebody's feelings. Your fear of confrontation is permitting people to languish in the wrong slot, slowing down your vision and discouraging the gifted folks around you who keep wondering, "How long are you going to permit this?" 3) Consider all your options, and then accept final responsibility. By learning to wait a little longer and getting more information before making a decision, you can avoid the heartache of ending up with second best. What looks good today, or in somebody's polished sales pitch, may not look so good tomorrow when you are presented with better options. Do not pay twice for the same information. Talk to someone you respect - someone who has already done what you want to do, particularly when your decision affects others and will be called upon to stand the test of time.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be a better leader at work, at home, and in my church. In Jesus' Name, Amen

Re: (CS4U) My friend

Oh Tami, what a terrible thing.  My heart goes out to your friend.  People always say you expect to loose parents, siblings, etc., but the loss of a child is the most difficult.  It's been over 6 years since my nephew passed and my brother has never been the same.
And now they say this man was acting in self defense and didn't know the gun was loaded!!!
Will keep them all in prayer.
HUGS,
Toni

(CS4U) February 11 - The Living and the Written Word

Days of Praise
The Living and the Written Word
February 11, 2011

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1)

The Holy Scriptures and the person of our Lord Jesus Christ are so inseparably bound together that whatever calls into question the integrity and authority of one correspondingly casts aspersions on the other. Let us not be guilty of saying that the written Word and the incarnate Word are in all aspects the same, but the Bible does clearly reveal Christ as "the Word . . . made flesh, |who| dwelt among us" (John 1:14). "And his name is called The Word of God" (Revelation 19:13).

In carefully worded arguments, Christ time and again called attention to the fact that the teachings of the Old Testament Scriptures were actually teaching about Him. "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. . . . For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?" (John 5:39, 46-47). "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead" (Luke 16:31).

Therefore, those who diligently search the Scriptures find in them sufficient testimony to Christ, and where there is faith in the witness of Scripture, there will be faith in Christ and His words. But if men reject the testimony of Scripture, they will not even be convinced by His miraculous resurrection from the dead.

Christ claimed that all of Scripture pointed to Him. On the road to Emmaus, He taught that all three popular divisions of the Old Testament traced one progressive Messianic revelation. To understand the New Testament, we must know the Old, for both tell the same story, each amplifying the other. They are forever inseparable. JDM

(CS4U) February 10 - According to the Word

Days of Praise
According to the Word
February 10, 2011

"Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word." (Psalm 119:169)

The closing 22nd stanza of Psalm 119 repeats many of the themes of the previous 21 and summarizes this epic to the majesty of the Word of God.

Seven passages contain prayer for "understanding," which depends on the gracious ministry of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and minds (John 14:26). Our finite minds cannot understand God's eternal truths apart from revelation and the "mind of Christ" granted at salvation (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Thirteen passages use "according to thy word." Nothing that we can do pleases God more than our efforts to "magnify" His Word in our lives and ministries (Psalm 138:2). Every sentient creature will be judged by what is "written in the books, according to their works" (Revelation 20:12).

Eight stanzas include the prayer to have God "teach." Again, apart from the Holy Spirit in our "new creature" (2 Corinthians 5:17), we would be empty of both understanding and wisdom. Through reading and meditating on God's Word, after salvation, we grow effective and gain maturity.

The writer also promised in eight stanzas to "not forget." Our minds need to become stabilized with memorized Scripture and our hearts ready and sanctified with the stored Word of God so that we can "give an answer" both to those who ask us (1 Peter 3:15) and when we need guidance for our own life decisions (Colossians 1:10).

The psalm ends with a prayer for all: "Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; and thy law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments" (Psalm 119:173-176). HMM III

Sitting in a Puddle

To be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:6b

Recommended Reading
Hebrews 13:20-25

When we're disappointed or distraught--whether about health or money or prodigals or whatever--we need a biblical plan for recovering God's peace. Perhaps you're separated from someone you love, and the loneliness is intense. To love is to sometimes hurt. We need the peace that exceeds understanding.

Try underlining Bible verses. Sit down with a cup of tea and search the Scriptures looking for verses to underline and memorize.

Try journaling. Write out your feelings, but also jot down the verses God gives you. You can also compose written prayers as the Psalm writers did long ago.

Try reading. Find an inspirational book. Whether an old classic like Pilgrim's Progress or something just off the press, read it with a highlighter in hand.

Try exercise. Even something as simple as walking around the block can clear your mind. Whatever you do, don't fall into self-pity. Sitting around in a puddle of worry isn't good for anyone. Whatever ailment we face, the Word of God is the medicine and the peace of God the cure.

(CS4U) Re: CS4U Prayer Request

Last night I received word that a parent of one of my students passed
away. this is the 2nd student of mine this year to have a parent die.
so much of this culture seems to be so private with all this type of
thing. I had no idea that her mother was so ill. Now that I know this,
it answers a lot of questions about behaviors and such.

(CS4U) Gloria's Music Ministry

You know, sometimes we just have to be reminded, don't we?  Thank you to my lovely daughter, Lisa for telling me about this song so I could share it with you today.  Look up!  What's that?  A trumpet?  Oh, glory, what a day that will be!

When the Wind Blows
(For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.  1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)

Night turns to daylight
And things are quite the same
You wake up and make up
Another day's routine
Then the sun begins to shine as if
The face of God were near
And a trumpet sound is played as if
All the world could hear

Chorus:
That's the day when the wind blows
That's the day when the earth begins to move
When the lion and the lamb start walking two by two
That's the day when the wind blows
When the sky is torn in two
And the Lord of lords in all His glory comes for you
Oh, when the wind blows

Beside you, behind you
Believers on their knees
And somehow you know now everyone you see
So hand-in-hand you fly away
To meet Him in the sky
This Man that you have dreamed about
He's right before your eyes

Chorus

That's the day when the wind blows
That's the day when the earth begins to move
When the lion and the lamb start walking two by two
When the wind blows
When the sky is torn in two
And the Lord of lords in all His glory
Comes for you, oh, when the wind blows
We'll be swept away, swept away
When the wind blows (repeat to fade)

Oh, Lord, all I can say is "Come quickly, Lord Jesus!"  Amen!

"But what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' - that is, the word of faith whch we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."
Romans 10:8-10
