(CS4U) Having A Wimpy Faith

Having A Wimpy Faith

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17

Too many of us are getting by on wimpy faith. We are not 'putting ourselves out there,' when it comes to trusting God. There are all kinds of things that we say we believe, but we cannot really believe them - because they do not show up in the way we live. We should live in such a way that if God is not who He says He is, we will fall flat on our face. That means looking for opportunities to trust Him more; living in such a way that He has to come through for you; making decisions that will strengthen your faith for the tough times ahead. 'But how'' you ask. Paul answers, '"faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.". If someone could stick a spiritual thermometer under your tongue and read the level of your faith, the thing that would cause it to rise or fall measurably, would be the time you have spent in God's Word. 'Well, my faith's pretty low at the minute,' you say. Then we know that you have not spent enough time in God's Word! 'I wish I had your faith,' you say. Actually, there is no mystery about how to close the gap between our faith and that of others - just log more time in God's Word! Is this always easy to do? No. It calls for rearranging your priorities, taking better control of your time and putting Bible reading at the top of your 'to-do' list. But if you are serious about growing in faith, it is a price you will be willing to pay.

Prayer
Heavenly Father – thank you for giving me the tool to increase my faith, Your Word. Bury my fears – and help me plunge into your Word more each day. In Jesus' Name, Amen

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.
[]
THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

[]
I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

Wishing you all a Blessed, Happy Thanksgiving!

(CS4U) A Pile of Stones

A Pile of Stones

"These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever."
Joshua 4:7

After the nation of Israel had miraculously crossed the Jordan River at Gilgal to enter the Promised Land, God commanded Joshua to send twelve men, one from each tribe, back into the river to gather one stone apiece. Joshua used the stones to build a memorial to God's care and protection. The idea was that as future generations of children saw the stones and asked their parents, "What do these stones mean?" the parents could retell the story of God's faithfulness.

We need "Joshua stones" in our lives too. Think about the times in your own life when God answered prayer and provided for your needs. These are the stories that could encourage your own children or those you come into contact with. They need to hear stories of God's deliverance and provision in your life when you were facing impossible situations. They need to hear about how God made a way where there was no way. Share the stories and share them more than once. These "Joshua stones" will give them encouragement when they face their own hard places. We all need encouragement from time to time, so don't forget to listen to the "Joshua stones" that others would like to share with you also.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You have done mighty and wonderful things in my life. You sent Your Son to die on the cross for me, You have called me by name to be Yours, and You have blessed me with gifts to honor You. Help me to recall those times when you have answered my prayers and provided for my needs. Empower me to share those times with others that they may also be encouraged to trust in You. I pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen

(CS4U) Angels Are Watching Over You

Angels Are Watching Over You

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
Hebrews 1:14

Some of us struggle with the idea of angels watching over us. And what is the result? Listen: 'Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!' (Hebrews 13:2). Is it possible you have missed them? 'Tell me again what angels are supposed to do,' you say. Okay, but keep an open mind; you are about to come into a new awareness! a) Angels are God's protective detail watching over you constantly. Your early cancer detection! That narrow escape! Those were more than just lucky breaks. Listen:'He orders His angels to protect you wherever you go' (Psalm 91:11). b) Special angels are assigned to watch over our children. Now you know why kids survive things that make parents go weak at the knees. Listen: 'do not despise a single one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of My heavenly Father' (Matthew 18:10). An angel went before Israel's army guaranteeing their victory. An angel shut the mouths of the lions for Daniel. An angel opened prison doors for Peter, saving his life on the eve of his execution. An angel showed up in a storm to let Paul know that he would be okay. So, did God suddenly do away with His Secret Service Department? Are they drawing unemployment benefits somewhere in heaven? No, they are still on the job. We just need to become wise enough and humble enough to acknowledge them.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your angels that watch over me! In Jesus' Name, Amen

(CS4U) Your Calling

Your Calling

Each one should remain in the calling which he was in when God called him.
1 Corinthians 7:20

When Peter preached at Pentecost, three thousand souls came to Christ. But when Paul preached a guy nodded off, broke his neck and killed himself by falling out of a third story window. Hardly an encouraging sign! But Paul admitted that preaching was not his chief calling: 'I came to you, timid and trembling, my message and my preaching were very plain'' (1Corinthians 2:3-4). Yet while he might not have been the most dynamic speaker in town, God empowered him to raise the man from the dead after he fell out of the window! Listen: Each one should remain in the calling which he was in when God called him. What Paul lacked as a speaker, he more than compensated for as a writer. His pen changed the world. He was responsible for more New Testament doctrine than those who spent every waking minute with Jesus. He judged cities, straightened out fornicators, stopped incest, rebuked idolatry, and established truth. Paul did not need to preach; he wrote the inspired Word that enabled others to do it. Something so powerful was released through Paul's writings that even when they threw him in jail he did not ask for a lawyer or a gourmet meal because he was tired of prison food. No, he asked for more paper so that he could keep writing. In fact, Paul wrote all the way to the end of his life. And because he did, souls are still being reached today! What a legacy! And all because one man devoted himself to his calling! Now for the question - are you devoting yourself to yours?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful to the calling you gave me and not try and do another's. In Jesus' Name, Amen

The Most Important Day of the Year

This is the wonder: that of all the days of the year, the most important one is the everyday. The everydays that are the most days of the year. These, the most days of our lives.

I think about these everydays that have kids hanging paintings on the fridge and me taking sun-dried sheets in off the line, these are the important days. Everydays when I trip over LEGOs and the laundry mounts into its very own range and I finally think of something to make for dinner when the head's weary tired and I set out the dishes and they all come. All this.

This is the sacred everyday.
I can miss it. How holy the moments are.

How do we find ways to somehow live awake to the astonishing, ordinary wonder of all this?
How do we find ways to somehow live so that everyday is consecrated?
We must find ways.
For the ways we live our everydays is the way we live our lives.

Psalm 105:1
Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness.
Let the whole world know what He has done.

Thankfulness and humility, no matter our circumstance, can ignite our faith and give us the courage to look up and move on.

God is ever and always in love with us and He has our best at heart. Because His heart is perfect, we can be thankful with every breath He gives.
