Well Chicago proper got it very bad and they are still being affected.  Closings, public transportation not all up and running, etc.  Most flights cancelled from both airports.  Many things there such as schools, etc., will still be closed tomorrow.  Still a mess; hundreds of cars stuck on Lake Shore Drive, etc., etc., etc.
Out here things are pretty much back to normal. Schools will be open, etc.
Fortunately I am far enough out away from the city that it wasn't quite as bad here. I'm not affected by the lake.  Lost power about 3 times but briefly, no consequence. My lines here are underground which helps.  The older part of town still has the power lines outside. It was very windy, my building shook and tree branches blowing against my roof, no visibility, etc.  But by this morning it has passed.  Chicago had a lot more power outages that lasted.
My car was buried but my neighbor's dug me out this evening because the association plows were out to clean the parking spaces. Each condo unit has  2 assigned parking spaces or 1 assigned space and a garage.  I have the 2 spaces.  First they do the lot (and build a wall behind your car); Then they want you to move your car to your other spot so they can clean those spots.  My neighbor's were wonderful.  They not only let me know the plow was out and that I needed to clean and move my car (a job that would of been VERY hard on me), but they completely cleaned off my car, shoveled it out so I just backed out into my other space which had already been plowed!  They even dug a path so I wouldn't have to walk in the deep snow!!!  I was so, so relieved!!
We're going to have wind chill warnings so everything will freeze so all the more reason I was so happy they helped me!!  I'm not  stranded! In the cold at least you can still get around as long as you keep a full tank so your gas lines don't freeze but when you get 20+" of snow it's a different story.
So a little more snow Friday and I think Monday, but normal. And now the Very cold.....
HUGS,

Yes, we will have pics tomorrow.
At present , I have a firm deposit on 1, will know in 1 week about the second one.
The third one is so small that we will be slow in finding the right people,
We are pretty picky about who the teacup size go to.
No small children, no multi pet households....so far, we have been blessed with WONDERFUL forever homes,
for our babies,

The whole thing was frustrating!
Larry didn't get enough info beforehand, and his court appointed attorney said
he wouldn't be at this hearing.  This was an appeal hearing, and Larry had to represent
nimself.  His son and I were very upset because Larry hadn't a clue that he would have
to act in place of his attorney; which included questioning his witnesses.
I don't know what the outcome will be....

So glad to see you back online!  Oh, I'm happy that Christelle is planning a happy occasion to mark that date!!  My niece got married on the date after my dad died, and
my son got married on the date before he died.  That definitely makes that time of year a time for happiness tather than overwhelming grief, which is what my sister has done
for years.

Sounds like you have a full medical schedule ahead of you!!  Extra prayers for all those
appointments!!  LOL @ new shoes :)

Gotta scoot!  Today is the day I have to go to court as a witness for Larry in the child

Subject: Wednesday in Maryland

It has been a month since I have spent any real time online.
We lost our Internet carrier and elected to catch up the bills before we had Internet reinstalled.
Mentally, there has been so very much going on that I have had to REALLY focus to remain sane through it all.
I will try to do a quick catch up on all the changes.

First Paul's Mom died and he flew out to Idaho.
He needs prayers as he tries to work through all the problems with his brother.
So . Please remember Paul and Carl in prayer.
Carl has continued to drink, and has finally been stopped for DUI. He has a court date.
Paul is praying that the judge will make treatment, and AA a required part of the judgement.
The house is in both of their names, and Carl does not want to sell. Carl has no job, so there is a mountain of problems facing Paul.
I do not anticipate Paul being free from all the turmoil in Idaho for quite a long time.

I will be remaining here in Maryland, Christelle and I have a 2 year lease. We are comfortable in this home.....she has full reign of the downstairs and I have the same upstairs.
Recently, we have been sitting upstairs in the living room for a couple hours in the evening.
She is knitting, while I crochet.
I do most Of the cooking but we rotate kitchen clean up.

I had some adjustments in my medical regime when Darvocet was pulled off the market. After researching the recall, I recognized .....Mama was on it when she died and the cardiac problems that she experienced that caused her death is the same that is typical of the deaths caused by the drug.

After praying for my son ,Lee, for the last couple years( since I left Fl), he contacted me and then came to visit the first week of Jan. He wanted me to know that he had finally gotten his act pulled together ( first time since his Daddy's death ). He has been staying in contact since last fall....
He is in the Army and was on his way to Afghanistan for 18 months.
Please remember him in your prayers, Lee Johnson.
Rachel, his wife , is a delightful girl.....I credit her with a lot of the improvements that I see in Lee. She found out that they expecting the week after he left. We are thinking PINK....
He has 2 boys from his previous, and she has 1 son.
She had planned to have her tubes tied in March........so I guess that will wait until next year, lol.
She plans to move her when school lets out, to have the baby. I think that she is leaving everything in storage in Ky until his return. I think he has a year left in Ky with this squadron
After their return.
I am praying for Lee's safety, and that he and his family will return to the Lord.
I am excited about Rachel being here and praying about our Christian influence.
(Both of them have gotten involved with the Oprah theology. Groan........)

OK, health status updates......The rhuematologist has put me back on Methotrexate. I take it once a week. It has been very effective in curving the pain to a tolerable level.
I have a GU/GI appt coming up for a colonoscopy.......
An apt with a foot doc , probably changes from the rheumatoid, or the fibro.....extreme sensitivity to the bottoms of my feet. Maybe, I will get some comfortable shoes after this, eh??
A cardiology appt to assess for damage done by the darvocet. They are now saying that it probably was the cause of my stroke.....
An opthamology exam and some new glasses by March.
A GYN appt  and a mammogram.......
Then my routine RA appt, and Internal med appt.

Christelle and Jim have finally set a date after a year of dating......Good Friday.
That was the day that Oneida died 10 years ago, and Chris has hated the day since then......
But I guess the VA has helped her make some wonderful strides, because she is ready to have something good and wonderful replace the depression that date normally brings.
She has flair ups with her Lupus from time to time. Has learned to pace herself, as fatigue is a trigger.

I am presently doing 2 intense Bible studies. One is the Crown Ministry study about finances and the second one is Hebrews.....both are 2 hour classes once a week.

I am praising our Father for each of you, and for the wonderful blessings that he has given us.
Over the next few days I will be attempting to catch up with my email.

Love you all,
sue

(CS4U) Crown Ministry Small Group Financial Study - 2-The Bible is a Blueprint for Living

I was sitting in the cardiology office yesterday and reread chapters 3 and 4 of "Your Money Counts " by Howard Dayton.
Here are some notes from chapter 3, that I highlighted.
Dayton says this is the most important chapter of his book......

Scripture teaches us that there are 2 distinct parts to the handling of money; the part God plays and the part that we play.

God's part is the foundation for contentment .
In scripiture God calls himself by more than 250 names.
The name that best describes God in the area of money is Master.

One of the MOST important parts of this study is "how we view God " because it determines "how we live".

God's part in 3 crucial areas ownership, control, and provision.

1) Ownership - God is the sole owner of everything.
Psalms 24:1 1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
   The world, and all who live in it;

Leviticus 25:23 - 23 "'The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers.
Haggar 2:8 - 8 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty.
Psalms 50:10 - 10 for every animal of the forest is mine,
And the cattle on a thousand hills.

The Lord is the creator of all things, and He has never transferred the ownership of His creation to His people.
Colosians 1:17 - 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Recognizing God's control over everything is critical in allowing Jesus Christ to become Lord of our money and our possessions.

Ownership or Lordship?
If we are going to be true fo;;owers of Christ, we must transfer the ownership of our possessions to the Lord.
Luke 14:33 - 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

A vivid example
Genesis 22:2 -  2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you."

Author Larry Burkett observed, "When we acknowledge God's ownership, every spending decision becomes a spiritual one."
Lord, what do You want me to do with Your money?
Spending, saving are equally as spiritual as giving decisions.

2) Control - the second responsibility that God has retained is ultimate control of every event that occurs upon the earth.
Several of the names of God recorded in the scriptures Master, Almighty, Creator, Shepherd, Lord of lords, King of kings.....
I chronicles 29:11-12 - 11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power
And the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
For everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, LORD, is the kingdom;
You are exalted as head over all.
12 Wealth and honor come from you;
You are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
To exalt and give strength to all.
Psalms 135:6 - 6 The LORD does whatever pleases him,
In the heavens and on the earth,
In the seas and all their depths.

Daniels 4:34-35 -  At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
   His dominion is an eternal dominion;
His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35 All the peoples of the earth
   Are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
   With the powers of heaven
And the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
Or say to him: "What have you done?"
Isaiah 45:6-7 - 6 so that from the rising of the sun
To the place of its setting
People may know there is none besides me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
7 I form the light and create darkness,
   I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things.

Romans 8:28 - 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

The Lord allows difficult circumstances for 3 reasons
A ) To accomplish His intentions
     Ex: Genesis 45:5,8
b) To develop our character
Godly character , something that is precious in the sight of the Lord is often developed in the midst of trying times.
Romans 5:3-4
c) To discipline His children
When we are disobedient , we can expect our loving Lord to administer
Discipline to encourage us to abandon our sin.
     Hebrew 12:6, 10-11

3) Provision - God's part is that He has promised to provide our needs.
Mathew 6:33 - 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Genesis 22:14 - God is spoken of as "Jehovah-Jireh" which means ;the Lord will provide. He takes care of His people and He does not need a  prosperous economy to provide for them.

God is both predictable and unpredictable. He is absolutely predictable in His faithfulness to provide for our needs. What we can not predict is how God will provide. He uses various and sometimes surprising means of meeting our needs. He is utterly reliable.

Timothy 6;8 tells us that our needs are food and covering. There is a difference between needs and wants.......He has not promised to provide our wants.
1Timothy 6:8 - But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
2 Samuel 12:7-8 - 7Nathan then said to David, "(A)You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel, '(B)It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul.

8'I also gave you (C)your master's house and your master's wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these!

Getting to know God - develop an awe for the master creator
Isaiah 51: 13 - 13That you have (A)forgotten the LORD your Maker,
         Who (B)stretched out the heavens
And laid the foundations of the earth,
That you (C)fear continually all day long because of the fury of the oppressor,
As he makes ready to destroy?
But where is the fury of the (D)oppressor?
Do NOT shrink Him down, try to fit Him into a box with human traits and
Limitations.

Lord of the Universe - Lord's power is incomprehensible to humans
Isaiah 40:26 - )Lift up your eyes on high
And see (B)who has created these stars,
The (C)One who leads forth their host by number,
         He calls them all by name;
Because of the (D)greatness of His might and the strength of His power,
(E)Not one of them is missing.

Lord of the Nations - Lord's role and position relative to nations and people.
Isaiah 40:21-24 - 21(A)Do you not know? Have you not heard?
Has it not been declared to you from the beginning?
Have you not understood (B)from the foundations of the earth?
22It is He who [a]sits above the [b](C)circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like (D)grasshoppers,
Who (E)stretches out the heavens like a (F)curtain
And spreads them out like a (G)tent to dwell in.
23He it is who reduces (H)rulers to nothing,
Who (I)makes the judges of the earth meaningless.
    24[c]Scarcely have they been planted,
         Scarcely have they been sown,
Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth,
But He merely blows on them, and they wither,
And the (J)storm carries them away like stubble.

Isaiah 40:15,17 - Behold, the (A)nations are like a drop from a bucket,
         And are regarded as a speck of (B)dust on the scales;
Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
17(A)All the nations are as nothing before Him,
They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless

Lord of the Individuals - he is intimately involved with each of us as individuals.
Psalms 139:3-4,16(NIV)3You (A)scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
4Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O LORD, You (B)know it all.
16Your (A)eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in (B)Your book were all written
The (C)days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
Matthew 10:30 - 30"But (A)the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Jeremiah 32:17 - 17'(A)Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have (B)made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! (C)Nothing is too difficult for You,

In summary, God's part is the owner, in control of every circumstance,
He has promised to meet our needs. God created the world and holds it together in able to perform His responsibilities and keep His promises

(CS4U) Leadership Promises - A Leader Speaks Up

February 4

A Leader Speaks Up
But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?"
Galatians 2:14

Paul's integrity drove him to stand up to Peter, his fellow leader, in front of several Jewish and Gentile believers. He criticized Peter's hypocrisy and demanded that all Christian leaders remain consistent, regardless of the company they keep. Paul teaches us how to critique someone. Consider his checklist:

  • Check your motive. Your goal should be to help, not humiliate.
  • Make sure the issue is worthy of criticism. Does it really matter?
  • Be specific. Don't drop hints, but clearly name the problem.
  • Don't undermine the person's self-confidence or identity. Make it obvious that you value the person.
  • Do not postpone needed criticism. If the issue is big, act now.
  • Look at yourself looking at others. Take the log out of your own eye.
  • End criticism with encouragement. Finish on a positive note.

(CS4U) February 4 - Prophecy

Days of Praise
Prophecy
February 4, 2011

"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him." (Deuteronomy 18:18)

Two types of prophecy must be distinguished. When a prophet foretells or predicts, he represents the future in light of the present. But frequently the prophetic message consisted of rebuking, reproving, counseling, or admonishing, i.e., forth-telling, rather than fore-telling. As such, he portrays the present in light of the future.

It is the predictive type of prophecy which provides such a strong argument for rational faith. Neither human intuition about the future nor limited Satanic control of the future can account for the hundreds of specific biblical prophecies that have been literally and specifically fulfilled. These could only come by Divine revelation from the One who both knows and controls the future.

Actually, predictive prophecy provides a double defense: Not only does it prove the divine origin, inspiration, and authority of Scripture, but since over half of the prophecies converge on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, it advocates His deity and Messiahship. One could hardly read Isaiah 52:13-53:12 or Psalm 22 without recognizing that these are prophetic portraits of Christ on the cross. Others, equally specific, deal with other aspects of His life and ministry.

Still others predict the coming Kingdom to be set up by Christ, in which we as believers will have a part. Having seen so many prophecies literally fulfilled, we can have complete confidence that these others will come to pass as well. "We shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (1 John 3:2-3). JDM

Who Holds the Future

Draw me away! We will run after you. The king has brought me into his chambers.
Song of Solomon 1:4

Recommended Reading
James 4:13-17

Forbes magazine is famous for its lists, one of them being "The 20 Most Expensive Celebrity Weddings." Among the astounding number of dollars spent on cakes, dresses, and honeymoons, at least five of the twenty couples spent money on a fairy-tale setting for their wedding: a castle. Scotland's Skibo Castle was used twice, and Italy's Odescalchi Castle was also used along with England's Sudeley Castle and India's Umaid Bhawan Palace.

While not exactly a castle in the strict sense, King Solomon's palace in Jerusalem probably fulfilled all his bride's expectations when they married. No wonder she said to him early in the Song of Solomon, "Draw me away!" What young girl doesn't dream of that most romantic of days in her future--her wedding day? Yet what a comfort to know that God holds the real-life answers to every heart's dream. We may not know what the future holds, but we definitely know who holds the future.

If you have dreams or questions about tomorrow, commit them to the God of the future. If your dream doesn't come true, it's only because God has something even better in store.

(CS4U) Leadership Promises - Give Up

February 3

Give Up
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials. James 1:2

What price are you willing to pay to be a more effective leader? One of finest examples of sacrifice by a leader in the Bible can be seen in the life of Moses. He could easily be the "poster child" for leadership sacrifice. He grew up like a son of Pharaoh, a prince. As a boy, he enjoyed every privilege and pleasure of the palace. Yet Moses risked all of that to try to help his people. And in fact, he lost everything.

After murdering an Egyptian, he faced exile in the desert of Midian, and for forty years he lived with the sacrifice he had made before learning that God intended to use him as a leader. By then, Moses had undergone the breaking and remaking process required for him to be used by God.

As a leader you may not be asked to leave your country or give up all your possessions as Moses was. But you can be sure that leading others will have a price.

(CS4U) Leadership Promises- Extending Your Influence

February 2

Extending Your Influence
And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons. Mark 3:13-15

One of the greatest lessons I've ever learned is that the people closest to me determine my level of success or failure. On my 40th birthday, I discovered that the only places where my influence and productivity were growing was where I had identified potential leaders and developed them. My intention in developing leaders had been to help them improve themselves, but I found that I was also benefiting greatly. Spending time with them had been like investing. They had grown, and at the same time I had reaped incredible dividends. That's when I realized that if I was to make it to the next level, I was going to have to extend myself through others. I would find leaders and pour my life into them, and as they improved, so would I.

(CS4U) February 3 - The Awesome Word

I thought I sent these out on Thursday...so much for thinking *~*
And all day yesterday I thought it was Saturday...sheesh!

pk

Days of Praise
The Awesome Word
February 3, 2011

"Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word." (Psalm 119:161)

This stanza of Psalm 119 is rich in descriptions of the way God's Word envelops the believer in awe and wonder. This initial focus is of the heart rather than the mind. Our minds are key to growth and maturity in Christ (Romans 12:1-2), but the heart must be engaged in our relationship with our heavenly Father (Luke 10:27).

The psalmist rejoiced in the Word of God "as one that findeth great spoil" (Psalm 119:162). Peter taught that the Word "liveth and abideth for ever" (1 Peter 1:23). It is far more than written text; it is the very God-breathed words by which the Lord Jesus will ultimately judge the world (John 12:48).

Love for the Word of God can cause the godly to "hate and abhor lying" (Psalm 119:163) and begin to recognize the way that God exercises His "righteous judgments" (v. 164) on those who dare to flaunt their wickedness. Nothing, the psalmist noted, "shall offend them" (v. 165). That mature perception brings praise "seven times a day" (v. 164). It also brings "great peace" (v. 165), the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Philippians 4:7).

Reveling in the wonder and awe of the Scriptures brings a stable "|hope| for |our| salvation" (Psalm 119:166), which in turn produces an open obedience to the commandments of God and a "soul" commitment to guard the Word (v. 167). This godly lifestyle is assured by those who understand that "all |our| ways are before thee." (v. 168). "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13). HMM III

Re: (CS4U) PRAYER REQUEST FROM CHANNING

Dear Channing,
I will keep all this in prayer. Know that God knows All your needs. Through His grace  you gain faith.  Also God forgives you as you repent & are sorry. We are All sinners,  but through God's gift of His Son, we are forgiven through His mercy and grace.  Do you have a Church Home? If not, many offer help even if you're not a member. By connecting,  you may find a Church Home. Keep praying, talk to God. I & I'm sure many others will do likewise & please keep us posted!

The Attitude of Stewardship

In His Presence: When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes (Deuteronomy 8:10-11).

Once you clarify who the author of all things is, it will clarify your attitude about stewardship. Genesis 1:28 defines our attitude when God said mankind should "subdue" and "rule over" the earth. The Hebrew words used here literally mean to trample underfoot and bring under control. God supplied it, and He put it under us to manage. We are to function as managers based on God's purpose for allowing us to have all that we have.

The attitude of the steward should reflect the belief that God put him where he is to rule what belongs to God. Man's stewardship is limited and delegated by God, and he must not forget the source of all he has. Job 23:13 tells us that God does what He pleases with what He owns.

The attitude of a steward should reflect thankfulness. One reason we go to church on Sunday is out of gratitude to God for sustaining us and keeping us through the week. We have many earthly blessings from the Lord, and we have eternal spiritual blessings as well. We should never cease to thank Him for all He has given and done for us. It is a privilege to manage His creation, and everything we have goes back to Him. The paper money in our wallets was made from trees He planted. The diamonds on our fingers came out of the earth that He created. It all points back to His provision, for which we should be thankful.

One Minute Please

You may think you don't have everything you want, but God expects you to be grateful for what you have.
