Praying For The Opposition

December 11, 2010

Our Daily Bread is hosted by Les Lamborn

READ: John 19:1-5

Love your enemies . . . and pray for those who . . . persecute you. —Matthew 5:44

When I was a freshman in Bible college, I began to be bolder about speaking up for the Lord. Not surprisingly, my new habit created friction with some. Attending a social event with my former high school friends bore this out. One young woman to whom I had witnessed earlier laughed at my concern about where she would spend eternity. Ed, a friend who knew of my faith, said jokingly, "Three cheers for the old rugged cross!" I felt put down and rejected.

But later that evening I was filled with an unexplainable love. Recalling our Lord's command to "Love your enemies . . . and pray for those who . . . persecute you" (Matt. 5:44), I prayed for Ed who had mocked the cross of Christ. With my eyes filled with tears, I asked the Lord to save him.

About a year later, I got a letter from Ed saying he wanted to get together. When we finally met, he shared how he had wept over his own sinfulness and had invited Jesus Christ to be his Savior and Lord. Later, to my surprise I heard that Ed had become a missionary to Brazil. The lesson I learned from that experience is that prayer is the best response to spiritual opposition. What critic of your faith might need your prayers today? —Dennis Fisher

Lord, help us not respond in kind
To those who hate and turn from You;
Instead, help us to love and pray
That someday they'll accept what's true. —Sper

People may mock our message but they are helpless against our prayers.

(CS4U) Prayer Request

I have copied and pasted the following from truth or fiction;

Summary of the eRumor:
Prayer request for the Darkhorse Battalion of the U.S. Marine are appearing all over the Internet.

The Truth:
The prayer requests for a group of U.S. Marines deployed in Afghanistan who have suffered heavy losses are real but some of the details regarding the casualty numbers are inaccurate, according to a December 4, 2010 article in the Salem-News

The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines known as "Darkhorse" is based out of Camp Pendleton in Southern California.  The unit currently deployed in Afghanistan and have suffered losses of 13 members since October of 2010.

In a statement written to family and friends commanding officer, Ltd. Colonel Jason Morris, told readers that his company had a "very difficult first two weeks in Sangin," Afghanistan where "Marines and Sailors of the Battalion have learned some hard lessons and adapted to a challenging operational environment."   Morris also said, "So, our mission of clearing out the Taliban and protecting the people from their oppression and violence is a challenging one."

These reports sparked pleas for prayer for the U.S. Marine Battalion to appear on the Facebook website, which visiting web surfers have copied and forwarded to friends and family via email.  This has resulted in nation wide response of people visiting the official Facebook page of the Darkhorse Battalion to post messages of encouragement and inquire as to how they can send care packages.  Click to view the Facebook page.

OK, prayer warriors, this is a real request for a group of our soldiers,
Our strongest area at CS4U has always been our Time spent in prayer.
This morning, I am asking that we all use that strength and offer prayer for this group of soldiers.
Hugs,
sueO

I don't know exactly when this message was started.  But, it is true, according to snopes and truth or fiction websites, that they have suffered great losses.  Unfortunately, the number 9 may not be current.  This must be one of the units I've seen reported in the news.  I would add to pray for the salvation of each individual.

In God we trust. :- )

       > We are asking everyone to say a prayer for "Darkhorse" 3rd Battalion 5th Marines and their families. They are fighting it out in Afghanistan & they have lost 9 marines in 4 days. IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE the message spread if more could pass it on. > > Semper Fi, God Bless America and God Bless the United States Marine Corps...

Re: (CS4U) Friday in Md.

Wow, had to read twice to get it straight!  Is Jon still in MD?  I guess then you wouldn't need a house sitter??
That's life....one never knows.  You can plan and plan and then in a second everything changes.
Take care of yourself...you were quite sick for awhile.  Glad stopping the Darvocet has helped you.  I had/have some but never took it regularly.  I needed a refill.  Saw my doc Mon and that's when I first found out about it being pulled so he Rx'd  something else.
Been having a lot of health issues, kinda tired to go into it all now.  But other than more flare ups the other stuff is working out.  Had breathing problems, sleep study, etc., etc.  Lost vision (atypical migraine), glad I was home.  Had to see the eye doc.  Now have to get new glasses but eye was OK, PTL., etc., etc., etc.  Problem with dizziness for couple days but think I overdid it.
Love & Hugs,
Toni

Christelle and Paul left here about 7am. They had one stop to make at the bank, closer to DC.
His flight time was 12:10pm, at Reagan National Airport.
They were driving up to the shuttle area parking the car and going by Metro to RNA.

Christelle has been using the metro each time she goes to DC for about 6 mths. This was Paul's first time.
He said it was wonderful......driving in DC is a nightmare. DC has a really nice metro system, they did have to change lines from the yellow to green, as Reagan airport is in Arlington, Va. ( on the water across from DC).
Dules International Airport is in metro DC area.
Baltimore International is the easiest to access by car.

It is so confusing when you are buying a ticket. As all 3 are listed as DC airports, LOL....
The ticket that Wes sent has 2 major lay overs, an hour in Atlanta, and an hour and half in Milwaukee. He will not arrive in Boise , Idaho before 12:30 am (their time).......

I am glad that we have figured out a way to go into DC without fighting the traffic and getting lost !!
The metro seems to b e the service that most of our friends use.

Amber only works until 1pm, today. I have to take Dakota up to the shop for Amber to trim her hair before 1pm.
Dakota will be going to her Dad's this eve. She had a half day of school today.

Lane has band practice after school and then he is bringing a friend home with him, to spend the night.
Jim is also expected to be driving in tonight. Then Jim, Christelle, Amber will drive the 2 boys to New Jersey in the am for their try outs for the Raider's drum and bugle corp.
Sat eve, I believe, Chris, Amber, and Dakota are invited to a very nice Christmas dinner on base being given by one of the Defense Contractors.
Sat will definitely be a BUSY day for them.

I admit to being a bit shell shocked, and will kinda have to adjust to major changes for my holiday plans.
Chris has asked me to go to Ohio with her, but I would have to find a dog sitter, really a house sitter, as we have 2 puppies, and 3 that are 5 year old, and an 10 year old......all Chihuahuas.
Jon, Dakota's daddy has asked me to go to their house for the Christmas day, and I guess that is an OK option. Dakota is so very territorial of me that she will be miserable unless I do go.

I am not sure what Paul and Carl will be doing at Christmas. The funeral will be Monday ot Tuesday.
Wes who is Paul's son, will want Paul with him. He now has 4 little ones. Jason is about 9, 2 boys that are 3, and a baby girl that is 7 months.
David is Carl's adopted son, I am not sure if Carl will be up to going to be with his family or will need Paul to get him through the day. We are praying that Carl is more accepting of his Mother's death than he was about their Dad's.
There will be a lot of decisions to be made over the next few months between Paul and Carl. Carl is not working at present. There is a small loan attached to the house for their Mom's care from when she was (mis)placed in the Alzheimer's unit by David, 2 years ago.

Well, I have my portion of the house to clean, before everything starts popping around here, LOL.......
Chris should be back from DC about the time that I pick up Amber.

For now,
Hugs,
SueO

Oh, I did talk to a lawyer by phone yesterday and he has asked me to send Claim Forms for both myself and my Mother for the Darvocet recall . He said he feels that both are viable/legitimate claims. More info about that to come, later, I am sure.
It does feel wonderful not to be constantly fighting constant mental confusion......that in itself is a blessing.......I thought that I "just had to put up with it". Mama's claim has to do with her heart failure causing her death.....she had the classic syndrome that is described in the Darvocet recall.
Mine has to do with the stroke, resp. Changes and continued weakness, fatigue, mental confusion.......that appear to have been  all caused by the med. ( not by my rheumatoid as I was orginally told.)

(CS4U) Running The Race To Win!

Running The Race To Win!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1

Roman athletes stripped down to a simple loin cloth to make sure nothing prevented them from running their fastest. How about you? Do you just want the fun of being in the race, or are you running to win? To succeed at becoming what God intended you to be, you will have to stop doing certain things, even enjoyable things, and begin doing other things that support your goals and help you fulfill your God-ordained purpose. That will probably mean saying no to well-intentioned people who try to involve you in things that ultimately steal your time but produce no fruit. It will also mean dealing with "the sin that so easily entangles..." When God says something is wrong, it is wrong! You do not need to discuss, theorize, blame, make excuses or feel sorry for yourself - you just need to agree, ask for His forgiveness and get that thing out of your life. Listen: "All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize" (1Corinthians 9:25). Who gets the prize? Those who practice self-control. Paul knew he could not win the race without first bringing his body, mind and emotions under the control of God's Spirit. The same goes for you. You cannot expect somebody else to make you do what is right; you must listen to God's Spirit for yourself and take action.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to run the race to win! Help me to strip away those things in my life that keep me from keeping my focus on you and doing that which you called me to do. In Jesus' Name, Amen

Beautiful Snow Moose A must see.

You probably won't see this again in your life
time! "Be sure to show this to your children or grandchildren."

Look behind the moose (?) on the left

I'm glad you came by. You never would have believed me if you hadn't seen it for yourself.

It really doesn't matter what color the outside is…white chocolate or dark brown chocolate.

These animals were photographed just north of the Wisconsin border on a highway near Marenisco, MI.
Once in awhile there is an opportunity to take in a piece of nature that you may never see. In these days of unrest and turmoil it is great to see that GOD still produces some wondrous beauty.

Absolutely stunning!

The driver is really wishing his camera was handy.

The odds of seeing an albino moose are astronomical and to see this in the upper peninsula of Michigan, near Wisconsin, is even greater than astronomical. To see two of them together is nearly impossible.

We wanted to share these photos with as many people as possible because you will probably never have a chance to see this rare sight again.

This is a really special treat, so enjoy the shots of a lifetime.

(CS4U) Staying Balanced

Staying Balanced

Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
2 Peter 3:17

In the Olympic games, the pentathlon is composed of five events: pistol shooting, fencing, horseback riding, running, and swimming. Medals are given for succeeding in all five areas, not just one or two. And the same is true in your Christian life. If you are serious about staying on track and in balance, you need to develop two vitally important habits: 1) Talking it through with others! The best way to internalize any scriptural principle is to discuss it with others. The Bible says, "As iron sharpens iron, so people can improve each other" (Proverbs 27:17). Only as you interact with others can you give and receive feedback, discuss real life examples, pray for, encourage and support each other as you begin to live out God's principles. Remember, we are meant to grow together, not separately. 2) Giving yourself regular checkups! Listen: "Do not drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it" (2 Corinthians 13:5). For good physical health you need regular checkups to determine your blood pressure, temperature, weight and so on. For good spiritual health you need to regularly check such vital areas as prayer, Bible reading, fellowship, growth in character, stewardship, and ministry to others. Jeremiah wrote, "Let's take a good look at the way we are living and reorder our lives under God" (Lamentations 3:40). You will be amazed how much these two habits help to keep you spiritually balanced!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me be spiritually balanced in my life – in prayer, in service, in study, and accountability. In Jesus' Name, Amen

(CS4U) Above and Beyond - Getting Out of the Pile

Above and Beyond - Getting Out of the Pile

Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility - young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.
Daniel 1:3-4

Even though Daniel started out as a slave, he was "well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve;" so he rose to the top spot, right next to the King. And if you want to excel at work, take a leaf out of his book. Jack Welsh, former CEO of General Electric, says: "The only way you are going to stand out, is to grasp this simple principle: when your boss asks you a question, assigns you a project or sends you to gather data, he already knows the answer he's looking for. He just wants you to confirm that what he believes is true. Most people do just that. But here's the difference. You must understand that the question is only the beginning. To elevate yourself, you must sink your thoughts into not only answering the question, but going above and beyond it. That means presenting him with three or four other ideas that he'd probably not considered. Your goal should be to add value to the idea by exceeding expectations. This is true not only with questions, but assignments, initiatives, and everything else ever given to you to do. If you understand that the question is only the beginning, you will get out of the pile fast, because 99% of all employees stay in the pile because they do not think. If you understand this principle, you will be given even more critical questions to answer, and in time, you will be the one giving the questions to others."

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me give my all and then some, to show that as a child of yours I go above and beyond. In Jesus' Name, Amen

(CS4U) Are You Putting Others First?

Are You Putting Others First?

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10

Do not be like the boss who wrote this memo to his personnel director: "Search the company for an alert, talented young man who can step into my shoes. When you find him - fire him!" You may smile, but if you feel constantly threatened by someone else's ability or success, you have a problem that needs to be dealt with. That problem is insecurity and jealousy, and it will stunt your growth and seriously limit your future.

When Hitler was looking for a chauffeur he selected the shortest man he could find and kept him as his driver for the rest of his life. This man was so short that he needed special blocks under the driver's seat just to see over the steering wheel. Hitler used other people to make himself look bigger than he really was. Do you ever do that? Paul says, "...take delight in honoring each other" (Romans 12:10). Whose life are you making a difference in today? Everybody you meet has a seed of success, but most of them cannot find it. That is where you come in! Help them to find it, even if it means sacrificing yourself to do it. Look at their temperament, their desires, their gifts, and their opportunities. Once you find that seed, fertilize it with opportunity and water it with encouragement. If you do, you will have the joy of seeing that person blossom before your eyes. Everybody is assigned to somebody. Find out who you have been assigned to and pour your life into them. Do that and you will be a success in God's eyes!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Help me to help someone else use their God given talents and gifts. Let me be an encourager to another so that Glory can be given to Your name. In Jesus' Name, Amen

(CS4U) God Protection

God's Protection

"Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall."
Psalm 55:22

It's a promise that is made over and over again in the Bible: Whatever "it" is, God can handle it.

Life isn't always easy. Sometimes life can seem like a long, tiring, character-building, fear-provoking journey. But even when the storm clouds form overhead, even during our darkest moments, we're protected by a loving Heavenly Father.

When we're worried, God can reassure us; when we're sad, God can comfort us. When our hearts are broken, God is not just near; He is here. So we must lift our thoughts and prayers to Him. When we do, He will answer our prayers. Why? Because He is our Shepherd, and He has promised to protect us now and forever.

God's hand uplifts those who turn their hearts and prayers to Him. Will you count yourself among that number? Will you accept God's peace and wear God's armor against the temptations and distractions of our dangerous world? If you do, you can live passionately and confidently, knowing that even on the darkest days, you and your Heavenly Father can handle every challenge you face.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You rule over the world, and my desire is that You also rule over my heart. Help me to trust You in all areas of my life. Empower me to be a faithful, obedient and available servant to Your will and desires for my life. I pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen

Re: (CS4U) Hi

Hi Bren,
Well, that's what we're here for!  I read your previous post about your veins in your neck and have been praying for you.  How is that going?
Now I will include your daughter. Mental illness is so difficult and so misunderstood.   May you both feel our Lords presence and know He loves you!
I am not a holiday person either.  I do like Easter and July 4th!  My decorations this year will consist of Christmas dish towels and cards up if I get any.  Many people have stopped mailing them.  I will not be mailing them this year either, I will send them by E-Mail.  I do have about 4 elderly people that don't use/have computer's that I will mail but that's it. Only 2 small presents to buy and that's done.
My Fibro/CFS has been acting up so I did not go to my friends for Thanksgiving as planned.  I think from the sounds of it I will most likely spend Christmas with just Cupid.  But that's OK as long as I make it to church!
Keep us updated as you can.
Love and HUGS,
Toni

It seems the only time I am on here anymore is asking for prayer. My oldest Jaynie is in the pyshic ward she had a break down. Please pray for her to get the right doctor and getting a job with health insurance. Unfortuneatly she is a lot like me in that area. Christmas in the family is feeling like ah humbug, first year without Mom. Me myself I don't really care about it at all. Ok, no more whining just pray for us please maybe God will hear your prayers. Re: (CS4U) My Mom

Paul,
Praying for you and family.  I know she has been ill for awhile; but when it happens even if expected it's still a shock.  God be with you.

Re: (CS4U) Friday in Md.

Sue, I am still fascinated with this Darvocet stuff. So you were
taken off Darvocet, and your symptoms cleared up, weakness, mental
confusion...
wow. I get mentally fogged up on the cholesterol meds, and I just refuse to
take them. I have had high cholesterol for 15 years and feel okay until I take
a med for it.
Yes, there are many side effects to meds and it is wise to read the
fine print to
see if you are experiencing any.
Amazing. I wonder how many lawsuits will be in the works.
Why do they give these meds out like candy, and so many of them to people who
have multiple health problems. Why is this the main way we treat illness and
chronic conditions? A fallen world I think.
