Your Prayers Carry Weight with God

In the Old Testament Abraham journeyed south. When he reached Gerar we read that he '...said of his wife Sarah, "She is my sister." Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her' Gen 20:2. Can you imagine how Sarah felt, trapped and alone in the palace, contemplating what lay ahead at the hands of her captor? And what's worse, her husband, the man she trusted with her life, let it happen! We're not privy to how Sarah prayed that night. But she must have touched the heart of God because He 'came to Abimelech in a dream and said "the woman you have taken is married return the man's wife...and you will live if not you will die."' Genesis 20:3-7.

God's directives are always clear; there's never any ambivalence about what He says. 'The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it...wherever He pleases' Proverbs 21:1. That means authority figures who don't even know you exist have to stop and listen when God speaks, because to Him '...one man is not different from another' Romans 2:11.

So what can you do when you're helpless to change a situation you didn't create? Or when someone you loved and trusted lets you down? Pray! Instead of giving in to bitterness or fear, cry out to God. He will hear you like He heard Sarah. How can you be sure? Because His Word says, 'The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.' No matter how bad things may look right now, and they looked pretty bad for Sarah that night, your prayers carry weight with God.

(CS4U) The Silence of God

The Silence of God

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession." Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."
Matthew 15:22-23

There's no silence so deep as the silence of God. Have you ever experienced that depth of silence? Has there ever been a time in your life when you've brought a need or desire before God and you heard... nothing. No words of comfort. No reassuring answer. No Miraculous intervention. Just silence.

How does the silence affect you? Do you feel rejected, unheard, unwanted, unloved, betrayed? Before you answer, look at what the women in this Biblical account did. She didn't walk away. She didn't surrender to despair and doubt. Instead she kept crying after Jesus and His disciples. This woman persisted, not because of who she was, but because of who He was – the Christ, the Great Healer. She dropped to her knees in faith and said, "Lord, help me!" The Jesus spoke, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted" (verse 28). And in that moment, her daughter was healed.

We may not always understand those times when it feels as though God is silent. But consider this possibility: In those moments when there is no word, perhaps God is reminding us that, even more than He wants to meet our needs, He wants us to understand our own need to meet Him, to fall before Him, and to trust Him. Don't hide from the silence of God. Sit with it, ponder it, challenge it, questions it. But whatever you do, don't mistake it for lack of compassion or lack of hearing.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you today as the Canaanite woman and ask for Your help. Help me to grow in my faith and my trust in You. Help me to seek You and honor You in all that I do. Help me to love You and Love others. I pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen

(CS4U) Do It Now

Do It Now

"The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved."
Jeremiah 8:20

When you haven't accomplished what you'd hoped for, regret becomes a major pastime. The electrician wishes he'd been an accountant; the accountant wishes he'd been a doctor. Maybe you planned to leave a legacy, but to date all you've left is a trail of unfulfilled aspirations. Well, it's not too late! You just have to be prepared to pursue your dream, hunt it down, and pay the price to fulfill it. Don't listen to complainers who've settled for less and want you to do the same. Remember, your goal isn't necessarily to live longer; it's to live to the max! Charles Lindberg, the first man to fly the Atlantic said, "If I could fly for ten years before I was killed in a crash, it would still be a worthwhile trade for an ordinary lifetime. Who values life more - aviators who spend it doing what they love, or misers who hoard it like pennies throughout their ant-like days?" Who knows, your whole life may have been preparation for this moment. Look at Winston Churchill; instead of retiring after World War II, he went on to win the Nobel Prize in literature. When Heinrich Schliemann retired from business to look for Homer's legendary city of Troy - he found it! Among the saddest words in Scripture are, "The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!" Time passes, days slip by, years fly, so do it now while there's time!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me be inspired to get going and not give up the pursuit you have placed before me. In Jesus' Name, Amen

READ: Psalm 139:1-16

My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret. —Psalm 139:15

An old TV sitcom featured an establishment that the patrons seemed to frequent on a daily basis. The concept was that it was a welcoming place where "everybody knows your name."

We all want to be accepted, to fit in somewhere. But some people live on the margins of life where it can be difficult to feel they have any value or significance, or that they matter to anyone. Children sometimes experience this: Too tall—when other kids haven't had a growth spurt yet. Too fat—when the other kids are thinner. Too smart—when their classmates are struggling. Or "not smart enough" in comparison with others. Being different as a child can result in being mocked or bullied. But an adult who doesn't fit into the mold may just be ignored—so insignificant that he or she feels invisible.

But what a great significance we have in God's eyes! We were so valued that He sent His Son to pay the price for our sins and to allow us to have a relationship with Him. We were created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27), and He has designed us and been involved in every detail of our life since before we were born (Ps. 139:1-16). Whether or not we always feel significant, we are deeply loved by our Father. —Cindy Hess Kasper

Of all creation's treasures rare,
Not one compares in worth with man,
In God's own image we were made
To fill a place in His great plan. —D. De Haan

The God who created the universe is the God who loves you.
