This was made using PSP 9

...other versions might need adjustments

 

Skill level - Advanced Beginner

 

Supplies Needed 

 

A mist or tube

 

Brush

a-dozi's-backgrounds-08 001.PspBrush

Hint: Most VM Filters will show up if they are imported into I.C.Net Software > Filters Unlimited 2.0

Preparation

  

Install filters if needed

 

Put both a-dozi's-backgrounds-08 001.Pspbrush and BrushTip_a-dozi's-backgrounds-08 001.PspScript in your My PSP Brush folder
 

Performance Notes:
 
All settings will remain the same unless
changes stated.
 

 Let's Get Started

 

1. File > Open
Find your Mist/Tube
 
2. Window > Duplicate or (Shift +D)
to duplicate your image
Close original
 
3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Width = Not wider than 300 Pixels
Height = 380 Pixels
 
*Optional
4. Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen
 
5. Dropper Tool
Choose two colors
Foreground = Light
Background = Med
Minimize
 
6. Materials Palette
Left click on your background color and write down the Hue(H) and Saturation(S) numbers
Note: this is needed if you are using a med/dark color
 
7. Materials Palette
Change your Foreground to Gradient
Settings:
Gradient = Foreground-background
Style = Linear
Angle = 45
Repeats = 3
Invert = Not checked 
Texture = Not checked
 
8. File > New

Settings:

Width = 450 Pixels

Height = 325 Pixels

Raster Background = Checked

Transparent = Checked

 

9. Flood Fill Tool

Settings:

Match mode = None

Sample merged = Not checked

Blend mode = Normal

Opacity = 100

Fill this layer with your dark color

 

10. Effects > Texture Effects >

Blinds
Settings:
Width = 52
Opacity = 27
Color = white
Horizontal = Checked
Light from left/top = Not checked
 
11. Effects > Plugins > Unplugged Tools > Compose
Settings:
Horizontal scale = 52
Vertical scale = 19
 
Optional:
If you dark color has changed too much at this point from the original color do this step.
 
12. Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize
Put the numbers for your dark color you wrote down earlier in the Hue and Saturation boxes.
 
13. Image > Rotate > Free Rotate
Settings:
Direction = Right
Degrees
Free = 90
All Layers = Checked
 
14. Layers > New Raster Layer
 
15. Paint Brush
Settings:
a-dozi's-backgrounds-08 001.PspBrush
Size = 425
Step = 25
Density = 100
Rotation = 0
Opacity = 100
Blend mode = Normal
Continuous = Not checked
Wet look paint = Not checked
Using your gradient place your brush centered and a little from the top over your image and double click.
See example below.
 
Note: If you find that the brush effects are too dark you can lower the opacity to this layer
 
16. Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
 
17. Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Corner & Vertical = Selected
Vertical offset = 0
Transition = 50
 
 
18. Layers > New Raster Layer
 
19. Flood Fill Tool
Fill this layer with your gradient
 
20. Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius = 25
 
21. Effects > Plugins > VM Extravaganza > shoutin'!
Settings:
Bars = 29
Gap Width 215
Top Amplitude = 152
Bottom Amplitude = 29
Top Rhythm = 75
Bottom Rhythm = 84
Transparency = 0
Move On/Off = 255
 
22. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = 2
Width = 1
Smoothness = 0
Depth = 1
Ambience = 0
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315
Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30
 
23. Layers > Duplicate
 
24. Image > Rotate > Free Rotate
Settings:
All Layers = Not checked
 
25. Image > Flip
 
26. Selection Tool > Custom Selection

Settings:

Top = 20
Left = 20
Right = 305
Bottom = 430
 
27. Selections > Invert
 
28. Edit > Clear
 
29. Layers Palette
Make your middle layer active
 
30. Edit > Clear
 
31. Selections > Invert
 
32. Layers Palette
Make your bottom layer active
 
33. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 20
Color = Dark color
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
 
Optional:
If drop shadow doesn't show very much do next step making note that you do not want it too dark.
 
34. Edit > Repeat Drop Shadow
 
35. Selections > Select None
 
36. Layers Palette
Make your middle layer active
 
37. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 35
Blur = 4
Color = Black
 
38. Layers Palette
Make your top layer active
 
39. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
 
40. Bring up your lowered mist/tube

 

41. Edit > Copy

Minimize

 

42. Edit > Paste > Paste as New Layer

 

43. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 3
Opacity = 40
Blur = 7
Or use your favorite settings
 
If using a mist, you can leave off the drop shadow
 
Optional:
At this time you can add text
 
44. Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
 
45. Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Width = 1700 Pixels (or your preference)
Height = 450 Pixels
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Placement = Left/Middle
 
46. Layers > New Raster Layer
 
47. Layers > Arrange > Move Down
 
48. Flood Fill Tool
Fill this layer with your dark color
 
49. Effects > Texture Effects >
Blinds
 
50. Effects > Plugins > Unplugged Tools > Compose
 
Note:
If you changed the color after doing this earlier then do the next step.
 
51. Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize
 
52. Materials Palette
Change your foreground gradient to your light color
 
53. Layers > New Raster Layer
 
54. Flood Fill Tool
Fill this layer with one of your colors
 
55. Layers Palette

Lower the opacity of this layer to 80 or to your liking

 

56. Layers Palette

Make your top layer active
 
57. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 4
Opacity = 45
Blur = 30
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Checked
 
58. Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
 
59. Layers > New Raster Layer
 
60. Layers > Arrange > Bring to Top
 
61. Add your Watermark
 
62. File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20
