(CS4U) Just a Touch

Just a Touch

"And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them."
Mark 10:16

Jesus was a hugger. He touched people. He laid hands on them. God presented himself physically to his creation walking amongst us. And when he ascended into heaven he sent his Holy Spirit to live in us and called us to continue touching people. As our creator God knows that touch is important.

John A. Barg, Joshua M. Ackerman and Christopher C. Nocera published research in the June 25, 2010 issue of Science that indicates our entire worldview is profoundly influenced by our sense of touch. Dr. Barg says, "The old concepts of mind-body dualism are turning out not to be true at all. Our minds are deeply and organically linked to our bodies." The study builds on previous work by Bargh that found people judge others to be more generous and caring after they had briefly held a cup of warm coffee rather than a cold drink.

What this means is that the things we touch, touch us and...literally...change us. Jesus knew this and when parents brought their children to be touched by him he would not allow his disciples to keep them away. Today you have the chance to be the touch of Jesus in the life of someone who desperately needs it. Follow his lead and be a hugger.

Prayer
Lord, you came in the flesh to touch me and change me. May I heed your call to touch others with your loving embrace. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
