Overcoming Fears
When I am afraid, I will trust in you. Psalms 56:3
You must learn to face the thing you fear, because each time you do its power over you diminishes. Plus, it gives you confidence that you can overcome the next obstacle. Do you find yourself wishing you could be one of those brave souls who 'grab life by the horns'? Well, here is a newsflash! Many of those folks feel the same fear you experience each time you tackle something new. What is the difference? They trust God and refuse to let it stop them! Alice was a homemaker who had been married for 30 years to Richard, a businessman. Because he had always taken care of things she had learned never to take risks. As a result, Alice's biggest fear was that she would be left alone. She would often tell friends, "I hope I go before Richard because I could not handle things by myself." But when Richard had a stroke Alice was placed in the position of caring for him, plus having to make all the decisions for them both. It was nerve wrecking at first. But once she began to take charge, she made an interesting discovery: security does not lie in having things, but in handling them! She found that facing her fears was easy compared to the years she had spent feeling inadequate, helpless, and dependent. Facing your fears is always easier than living with helplessness! In fact, when you let fear stop you, you end up living with feelings of dread and helplessness that are ten times worse than if you had just faced your fears and moved forward!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me today to face any fears I have with the assurance you are there with me to help me! In Jesus' Name, Amen
