(CS4U) The Acceptance/Performance Treadmill - Part 2

The Acceptance/Performance Treadmill – Part 2

For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
Romans 3:28

It is essential that you understand what makes you acceptable in the eyes of God. If you have real faith you will do good works, but you will not depend on them. No, you will do them as an act of loving obedience - rather than a 'work of the flesh' by which you hope to gain right standing with Him. We spend our lives feeling wrong about ourselves. And unfortunately the world confirms this by promoting the idea that our value is somehow connected to our 'doing.' Growing up, we are constantly compared. When asked why we were not doing as well as our brother or sister or the child next door, we felt we were doing our best so we had no answer. Therefore we determined to try harder, but no matter how hard we tried somebody was still not satisfied with us. We were still getting the message "something's wrong with you." This leaves us burned out, confused, turned-off, and in some cases mentally ill. It drives multitudes into therapy, when really all they need is God's unconditional love. Get this: your wrong behaviors will not be permanently changed until you know that you are loved by God apart from what you do. All of us need that - and that is what Jesus made possible through the cross! Why is this important to believe? Because until you know who you are in Christ, you will stumble along believing that your acceptance with God is performance-based. Your acceptance with God is based on performance, but not yours - Christ's! Grasp that, and you will begin enjoying your Christian life!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know I can never measure up to what others expect, but I know that because of you I am loved and accepted. Help me remember that each day and know that in the final analysis it is your view that counts! In Jesus' Name, Amen
