Refusing to Settle For Less!
"Look, I am about to die," Esau said. "What good is the birthright to me"
As twins go, Esau and Jacob were very different but they quickly learned to negotiate. Haven't you watched kids make a deal that favored one over the other? For example, one offers the other a candy bar in exchange for an expensive video game. Well, that same dynamic was at work between Esau and Jacob. Esau had been hunting; he was exhausted and famished. Therefore nothing mattered except food and a good night's sleep - especially something as remote as a future inheritance! He said, "'I am about to die, what is this birthright to me?' So he sold [it] to Jacob [for] bread and stew." Now before you judge Esau too harshly, remember, the same human weakness resides in all of us. Haven't you also made bad decisions when you were stressed, tired, bored, discouraged or lonely? That was the time your mate picked to discuss the strain in your relationship or your teenager needed to talk to you or your boss chose to confer about your future prospects. You knew they were all important issues but why at this particular moment? So you jeopardized your birthright by postponing the issue, or ignoring it! Remember, the enemy wants to distract you by offering you some temporary pleasure, accomplishment or diversion in exchange for your future. Don't do it! Don't trade your God-given destiny for momentary gratification; be patient and hold fast. When you do, God will eventually bring your dreams to pass in ways that will honor and not diminish them.
