(CS4U) Beatitudes - Part 5

Beatitudes - Part 5

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Matthew 5:7

Revenge only looks sweet; in reality it is bitter. That is why Paul writes: ''never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God'' (Romans 12:19). Satan wants to keep you in a constant stew so that you will forfeit God's blessings. Do not let him! Instead choose to: 1) Be gracious instead of always having to be 'right.' Jesus said, ''the merciful' receive mercy.' Un-forgiveness keeps you on the merry-go-round of resentment. Is it that important to make others wrong and yourself right? Listen: ''You cannot get forgiveness 'without' forgiving others. If you refuse, "you cut yourself off'' (Matthew 6:14-15). Is that a price you are prepared to pay? 2) Go to the source! Often the root of your anger is hidden from you. That is, until you whack your elbow or get stuck in traffic - then you turn the air blue! Exaggerated anger is often displaced anger; something deeper is at work. Ask God to show you what it is. 3) Refuse to be a victim. Mercy heals; unforgiveness makes you a perpetual victim. Plus, while you are busy ulcerating and planning your payback, the other person is out enjoying life! God has already promised you justice, so forgive your enemies! In fact, the only people you should consider getting even with are those who have helped you! William Stoddard says, 'Forgiving the unforgivable is hard. But so was the cross: hard words, hard wood, hard nails.' Weak people seek retribution; mercy is always a characteristic of the strong. So be strong!.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me not to waste emotion and energy on revenge. Help me trust you and move on to do your will. In Jesus' Name, Amen
