(CS4U) Beatitudes - Part 7

Beatitudes - Part 7

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:9

In June 2003, the historic feud that began over 125 years ago between the Hatfields and the McCoys over a stolen pig finally ended! Their descendants gathered in Kentucky to sign a peacemaking agreement that read: "We declare an end to all hostilities, now and forevermore. We ask that by God's grace we forever be remembered as those that bound together the hearts of two families." Conversely, a newspaper recently reported that a group of Texas firefighters deliberately set over 40 fires! When they were caught they said, "We'd nothing to do; we just wanted to get the red lights flashing and the bells clanging!" Jesus said, "peacemakers shall be called sons of God," because just as the job of those firefighters was to extinguish fires not start them, your job is to resolve conflict not add to it. This principle inspired St Francis of Assisi to pen his famous prayer: "Lord make me an instrument of Your peace! Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. Divine Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood, as to understand. To be loved, as to love. For in giving we receive. In pardoning we are pardoned. In dying we are born to eternal life." Jesus was called "The Prince of Peace". To be like Him - start sowing seeds of peace.
