(CS4U) The acts of love

The acts of love

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
1 Corinthians 13:4-5

At what point should I confront somebody? Only after you have answered these questions: a) Is it critical? If it involves a major doctrinal error, marital unfaithfulness, a criminal act, an abusive behavior or a situation that could hurt them, it is critical - get involved b) Is it chronic? If you observe the same thing happening over and over, it does not have to be big to get your love in gear c) How close are you to the situation? If you saw a casual acquaintance making a purchase that was unwise, that is probably not your business. But if someone close to you does it, it is both appropriate and loving to say, "We cannot afford that. It is just going to give us problems down the road.' Here is how love takes action. Love: a) ''is not rude'' It does not use the 'open-wide-while-I-jam-this-down-your-throat' approach b) ''is not self-seeking'' Love forgets about the need to be accepted and makes sure that what the other person hears is filtered only by kindness. It refuses to walk away having spoken only half the truth c) ''is not easily angered'' When you confront someone in love, do not be upset if you get an angry response like, 'Who are you to tell me'? d) ''keeps no record of wrongs'' When you have been hurt, it is critical that you deal with the hurt and get it behind you. Only then can you confront someone for their own good. That is love in action - and it is powerful!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me wisdom to know when to confront in love and when to hold back. In Jesus' Name, Amen
