(CS4U) When Jesus Shows Up!

When Jesus Shows Up!

When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. Mark 5:2
Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. Mark 5:5

This wild man was Satan's poster boy - a tribute to the work of the enemy. He was more comfortable among the dead than the living. Ordinary people were terrified of him. Notice: a) He repeatedly hurt himself. Now, he used stones, but Satan is just as happy when you use drugs, sex, alcohol, gluttony and overwork b) He was preoccupied with death. Why would someone choose to live among the tombs? Perhaps at a certain point in the past something caused him to give up, to stop living c) He had no peace. The Bible says, "the evil spirit wanders looking for rest" (Matthew 12:43 Phps). The downside to godlessness is restlessness; nothing is ever enough d) He lived in seclusion. Satan is continually "seeking someone to devour" (see 1Peter 5:8). And His job is much easier when you do not have a support system. Fellowship wrecks his plans. But when Jesus spoke, hell went into retreat and the tormenting demons submitted. They "begged Him, saying, 'Send us to the swine'. . .And Jesus gave them permission" (Mark 5:12-13). Think: Satan cannot even occupy a pig without God's clearance! No séances, chants, candles or crystals; just one word from the Master and he is restored to "his right mind" (v.15).

No wonder the songwriter wrote, (Our Prayer Today) "When Jesus comes the tempter's power is broken. When Jesus comes all tears are wiped away. He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory. For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay!" Amen
