He Said It - So You'd Never Have To!   About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani" - which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me" Matthew 27:46   How would you feel about having to stand on a stage and watch a video of every sin you have ever committed? The angry outbursts. Selfish motives. Critical attitudes. Jealous intentions. Secret addictions. You would probably want to crawl under a rock! Well, Jesus endured much worse. The Bible says He, "carried our sins in His body on the cross so we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right" (1Peter 2:24). Now, it is bad enough to die for sins you did not commit, but can you imagine being forsaken by God? Abandoned! However Jesus was NOT abandoned, see Psalm 22:24 "For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help". So David was right when He wrote, "I have never seen the righteous forsaken" (Psalm 37:25) Jesus put Himself in our place! In a move that broke God's heart, He poured out all His righteous judgment on His only Son because of our sin. So, when Jesus cried from the cross, "My God, My God, why did You abandon Me" He said it - so you would never have to!   Prayer Dear Jesus, thank you for taking my sin upon yourself so that I will never be forsaken by God. In Your Precious Name, Amen
